Climate change levy: how the rate has changed
Driving, flying and the environment. The climate change levy has been charged on the electricity and gas that firms and public services use since April 2001. Homes do not pay it. Energy-intensive industries pay reduced rates.
Worth knowing
- Gas was charged at a much lower rate than electricity until April 2019, when the gap began to close. The electricity rate was cut in 2020 and 2021, and the two rates have been level since April 2024.
